    Description

The Lunar Orbiter, Program Overview (1966)
    (LO-001)
Original program overview of the Lunar Orbiter prepared by Boeing (primary contractor) for NASA in April 1966, four months before the launch of the first mission.  Between 1966 and 1967 five Lunar Orbiter  unmanned missions were launched to map potential landing sites for subsequent Apollo missions using high resolution photography.  Overview includes a review of unmanned lunar exploration programs, Lunar Orbiter mission profile, the spacecraft and subsystems (including photography, electrical and communications) and the ground data handling equipment.  See image of table of contents.  Loaded with diagrams of both the mission profile and spacecraft.  This is a unique document in that it discusses the non-digital photographic process.  Photos were taken on film and then processed in an onboard photo lab.  The reel of processed film would then be scanned and results relayed to Earth for reconstruction.  Eastman Kodak was the subcontractor for the photography system.  When no film remained the spacecraft was in orbit until the fuel to maintain the orientation of the craft was depleted and it impacted the lunar surface.

    About Space Flight Collectibles
The memorabilia we offer in our store was collected while I was a teenager and wrapped
up in the enthusiasm of those early years of the space program.
Much of what we offer was
collected as part of the research I was doing for projects in local science fairs.
The memorabilia in our store are all original and include NASA and contractor brochures, photos,
technical reports, press kits and commemorative collectibles.
We will be adding new memorabilia on a regular basis.

Our store is dedicated to the memory of my parents John  and Lorette who never stopped supporting
