    Description

    YVON CHOUINARD-SIGNED
    first generation Chouinard-Frost wood-handled piolet ("Climaxe"). In lovely condition; ash (?) handle in excellent condition with light rust to head of piolet.  Signed by Mr. Chouinard at Patagonia headquarters in Ventura California in 2017.  Comes with what appears to be original (blue) leash.
    This version of the Chouinard-Frost piolet is unusual, with the shaft (handle)
    being only 12 inches in length
    .  It was developed as a ice-climbing tool but was not a big seller due to, among other things, head/shaft imbalance (to insubstantial for ice climbing, too short for snow climbing).
    A rare Chouinard-Frost piolet; exceptionally so given condition and signed by Yvon Chouinard.  You are unlikely to see such an item listed on eBay again.  I am selling a few select, high-quality items from my climbing collection acquired over the past 25 years.
