Description
This is a very rare WWII ephemera item. This is a copy of a memo that William M. Hogue, "Brigadier General, U.S. Army, Commanding" received from M.S. Eddy, Commanding Major General of the U.S. Army on April 6, 1945. In this memo, Commanding Major General Eddy was congratulating Brigadier General Hogue on his and his commands crossing of the Rhine, seizing the Hanau and Aschaffenburg bridges, and marching one hundred miles into Central Germany. He also expressed regret on Hogue's impending transfer out of the 4th Armored Division. On the reverse side of this letter, Hogue had his own memotypewritten to his men dated April 10, 1945 in which he passes on his congratulations to his officers and men. Clever, inclusive, and generous in that he made a copy of the original letter from Eddy available to his men. This is a copy of the letter/memo that was kept in storage over 70 years by a soldier in Hogue's command. Letter is creased as shown and has age related darkening. Has no tears. Odor-free and no stains. Does have a lightly penciled name? and number on reverse side but all in all, for its age, this is in good condition. This has been stored folded so I will ship the same way. A one of a kind, rare item.
Sale final; no return. Thanks for looking!
