Description
Offered is a vintage 1997 Collection of five (5) Museo Nacional de Antropologia in Mexico City in a series of twenty-six (26)exquisite artifacts hand-crafted in miniature by Mexican artisans displayed in Lucite. Each piece is a clay replica from an
important historical collection on permanent display. Created to contain and preserve the memory of the Mayans, Aztecs,
Mixtecs, Olmecs and other ancient civilizations that flourished in Mexico prior to the Spanish conquest in 1521.
Each piece measures approximately 3 1/4" tall X 2 13/16" across the face X 2 3/8" front to back and is marked on the underside
with the name of the piece. Included from top to bottom row and left to right are:
1) "The Wrestler" - Probably a player of the sacred ball game
2) "Maya Noblewoman" - Holding a Spindle with Thread
3) "Parrot Vessel" - Found in the tombs of West Mexico
4) "The Huastec Adolescent" with his symbolic tattooing with infant on his back
5) "Aztec "Eagle Knight" - Warrior wearing the symbolic costume of the eagle - (this piece has a slight nick in the corner of the
lucite as shown in the last photo).
All have light wear and a few spots to the lucite yet you have to look very closely to find them & they display beautifully from
all angles. (Please use enlargement/zoom features for the best close up views of their condition).
Each weighs approximately 15 oz. and comes with just one box and pamplet describing the whole collection between them. (The
other boxes were not kept.)
