    Description

Faber-Castell / Wichmann (cme) Richtschieber Artillery Slide Rule. German WW II. Rugged. Hard-to-Find.
This artillery slide rule is in very good condition.  Used, with minor scratches and spots of dirt.  See photos.  The rugged leather carrying case is included.
We have limited information about this particular slide rule; perhaps some history buffs will know more.  It is a wooden slide rule with celluloid scales, probably manufactured by Faber-Castell, but evidently sold by Wichmann.  It was evidently used in artillery applications.  The stator is about 25 cm x 6 cm x 1.5 cm.  The cursor is about 5.6 cm x 4.2 cm.
The cursor moves smoothly. The slide moves freely, but its movement is stiffer in some spots, and smoother in others. The slide is reversible; both sides of the slide are depicted in the photographs.  German-language instructions appear on the reverse of the stator.  The slide rule was presumably used to calculate range, trajectory, etc. for mortar rounds, but that is outside our knowledge.
The mark cme appears in the well of the stator.  The ordnance code cme was sometimes used to designate the German concern Wichmann during WWII, but this rule otherwise appears to be consistent with manufacture by Faber-Castell.  The well also shows the code 150 464.  We do not know the significance of those numerals. There is a small ink stamp of a German "war eagle" in the well, but the details of the ink stamp cannot be made out. See photos.
