AUTHENTIC CIRCA 1800'S FUR TRADE ERA CATLINITE BEAVER FROM THE TERRY SCHULTZ COLLECTION
OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL WEEKS I AM GOING TO BE LISTING A NUMBER OF ITEMS COLLECTED BY THE LATE TERRY SCHULTZ OF CHICAGO HEIGHTS, ILLINOIS WHO PASSED AWAY IN AUGUST OF THIS YEAR.  TERRY COLLECTED OVER MOST OF HIS 77 YEARS, FOCUSING HIS ATTENTION ON A WIDE VARIETY OF ARTIFACTS, BOTH PREHISTORIC AND HISTORIC, INCLUDING STONE ITEMS, BASKETS AND POTTERY, PRE-COLUMBIAN ARTIFACTS, FUR-TRADE ERA ARTIFACTS, PLAINS INDIAN BEADWORK, CATLINITE AND OTHER PIPES, AND NUMEROUS 18TH AND 19TH CENTURY WEAPONS, TOOLS AND MISC. ARTIFACTS.  TERRY WAS A WELL KNOWN AND RESPECTED COLLECTOR AND SURFACE HUNTER WHO HAD A GOOD EYE FOR RARITY AND AUTHENTICITY.  HIS CATALOG ENTRIES GO BACK TO THE 1960'S, THOUGH HE BEGAN FINDING ARTIFACTS IN THE KANKAKEE, ILLINOIS AREA AS A YOUNG BOY IN THE MID 1950'S.  THIS LISTING IS FOR A UNIQUE CUT AND POLISHED CATLINITE BEAVER WHICH TERRY ACQUIRED FROM WISCONSIN COLLECTOR DAN MAAS IN DECEMBER OF 2012 (I WENT ALONG FOR THE RIDE THAT DAY).  THE BEAVER WAS FOUND BY A BROWNSVILLE, MINNESOTA MAN ON A SAND BAR ACROSS FROM LACROSSE, WISCONSIN.  DIFFICULT TO ASSIGN AGE TO SUCH AN ITEM; MY GUT FEELING IS ITS MADE BY A EUROPEAN FUR TRADER IN THE FIRST HALF OF THE 1800'S.  IT HAS REALLY GOOD PATINA AND NICE DETAIL.  IT IS TERRY'S NO. Z3510 AND IT IS GUARANTEED TO BE GENUINE.
